If you’re looking for a wedding venue or portrait locations that are style-driven with good design and a modern feel, you’re in the right place. Locations that have neutral color palettes, clean lines and understated sophistication, are my favorite. Here are 10 of my favorite modern and minimalist wedding venues in Maryland, DC and PA:
wedding venues with understated, sophisticated vibes:
- The Ivy Hotel in Mt. Vernon, Baltimore; ideal for couples that love refined boutique hotels with charm, history and gorgeous design. Named one of the top 5 luxury hotels in the US, intimate weddings and events here are elegant, meticulously planned and flawlessly executed. The service is exceptional, the historic property is full of character and the walled courtyard is an oasis.
- Swann House in Dupont Circle, DC; once a private home, this 1883 bed & breakfast blends original craftsmanship with contemporary comforts. The ground floor has 5 gathering spaces full of style and tons of natural light. With 10 distinctive guest rooms, a welcoming front porch, a stylish solarium and a courtyard pool oasis (!), you will not want to leave when your intimate celebration ends.
- Line Hotel in Adams Morgan, DC; this 110-year-old neoclassical church building has a storied and architectural feel. The elevated design is both historic and modern, grand yet intimate — the rooftop with panoramic views of the nation’s capital and the Washington Monument is my favorite!
- Woodberry Kitchen in Baltimore, MD; ideal for couples whose greatest pleasure in life is eating and drinking well around a table with friends and family. Set inside a historic mill, the main room features vaulted ceilings, original brickwork and curved brick archways. French doors open onto a tented patio, creating a weather-protected, indoor/outdoor space for your ceremony.
a modern, design-focused, sculptural art museum & garden:
- Glenstone Museum in Potomac, MD; this wooded setting is ideal for couples that love nature, sculpture and modern architecture. Note: timed reservations are required to be made in advance.
wedding venues with crisp, modern lines and neutral color palettes:
- Sagamore Pendry in Fells Point, Baltimore; perfect for couples that want to celebrate their modern urban wedding in style on a city pier. Sip cocktails in the lush courtyard, take photos on the pool deck with the harbor as your backdrop, and feel like a celebrity on the red carpet as you head upstairs to enter the grand ballroom.
- The Butterfly Room in Baltimore, MD; ideal for couples that love industrial spaces with exposed brick, black metal and floor-to-ceiling glass. Guests can see directly into the woodshop that transforms wood from the city of Baltimore into incredible custom furniture. See more from Ali & Moss and Chelsea & Cooper’s weddings, 2 of our Urban Row Butterfly Room couples.
wedding venues with lush gardens, minimalist architecture and experiential spaces:
- Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA; full of color, texture, and fragrance with artful displays of horticulture along each walkway. This unique wedding venue is perfect for couples that love greenhouses, nature, gardens and conservation.
Note: the Conservatory is offered exclusively for larger events on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and select Sundays.
- Gott Efni’s Gott Haus in Baltimore, MD; intimate and enchanting. This haven for togetherness feels like you’ve stepped into a world nestled in quiet charm and unexpected details. A space full of lush greenery, soft draping, and whimsical, vintage feels. European infusion. Old things with new purpose. The fine line between minimalism and maximalism. A space for ceremony, celebration and life in its most natural, elevated form.
an events venue with thoughtful design and an immersive sensory experience:
- The Lounge at Burnt Hill Farm in Clarksburg, MD; where wine, food, and hospitality are deeply connected to place. Ideal for couples who love savoring wines with incredible sunset views. Elevated gatherings perch atop a windswept hillside overlooking thousands of grapevines and views of the Appalachian Mountains, this setting is perfect for wine lovers and their families.
Since Burnt Hill Farm only opened last month (August ’25), I have yet to go, but know it will be absolutely magical. I’ve been to their sister venue, Old Westminster Winery and love their private greenhouses and grounds for couple’s photos: dog-friendly, private, a delicious experience for all 5 senses.
We are so lucky to have so many historic, charming and one-of-a-kind wedding venues within the DMV area.
