caroline + josh | an intimate winter wedding at woodberry kitchen

Caroline + Josh chose to get married on an incredible wedding date — one that actually won’t happen again for 200 years! On a rainy and overcast Twosday (and it was actually a Tuesday!) February 22, 2022, these two sweethearts shared an intimate, memorable and cozy dinner wedding celebration with their closest family and friends at Woodberry Kitchen in the Clipper Mill neighborhood of Baltimore.

The rain stopped just in time for us to take portraits in and around the restaurant, one of my favorite spots in Baltimore full of all the best historic industrial vibes. Smiles never left their faces (and mine!); I hope you enjoy reliving their once-in-a-lifetime love story as much as I enjoyed being a part of it…

newlywed couple shares a moment at their february woodberry kitchen wedding

Woodberry Kitchen is such a unique and inviting space for intimate, micro weddings in Baltimore. Here are 5 reasons why this couple and their wedding stole my heart:

  1. Caroline’s engagement ring was Josh’s grandmother’s and the bracelet she wore was her great-grandmother’s.

  2. Caroline and Josh were beaming as they walked down the aisle together into their intimate ceremony. I love seeing how couples make traditions their own - Josh’s aunt even officiated and married them!

  3. Guests were seated at 2 12’ long tables that allowed an intimate, family style feel to the dinner celebration with 3 course menus, checkered plaid napkins and tealights at each placesetting, to add to the cozy feel.

  4. Caroline wore a fur wrap and Josh wore a paisley mustard yellow vest! Her bouquet included maroon calla lillies, dark red king protea, white and red roses and seeded eucalyptus.

  5. The string lights and vaulted ceiling with full-length windows letting in as much natural light as possible and worn wood floorboards underfoot, added a romantic feel as appetizers were passed and guests mingled happily into the night.

  6. Caroline and Josh share such a gentle, caring relationship full of sweet gestures and goofy laughs; while they now live in the heart of Fells Point, proposing at the Pagoda in Patterson Park is how it all started for these cuties!

Congratulations again, Caroline + Josh!! Your winter wedding at Woodberry Kitchen was such a joy and honor to be a part of; I hope you both continue to enjoy cozy, warm and delicious meals together with your favorite people for decades to come!

Naomi

megan + anthony | a snowy winter wedding on valentine's day

On a cold, snowy Valentine’s Day in Maryland, Megan + Anthony became husband and wife in an intimate church ceremony after getting ready at home alongside their pups and closest friends and family. Their property looked exceptionally beautiful covered in a blanket of snow!

Megan’s lace gown was simply perfect accessorized with pearl earrings, a pearl hair clip and a cathedral veil with lace edging. Her bridesmaids wore various shades of blush and burgundy that looked so elegant against the bright white backdrop of snow and their light blue garage doors! Anthony’s touch of warmth and a fun pattern came from a bit of plaid in his scarf, that complimented his vibrant navy blue suit.

These next few images might be my favorites of their wedding day… the kind of candid laughter you can’t make up and getting ready moments that came together so beautifully!

As I clicked the shutter, I remember thinking Megan’s expression was 100% worth whatever random weird thing I said to make her crack up. :)

Working with Jacs of Beauty by Jacs was so effortless; she is immensely talented at her craft (just look at Megan’s makeup!) and one of the sweetest vendors and humans I’ve ever worked with!!

an unconventional + fun accelerator space wedding

Inspired by a love of craft beer, The Avett Brothers and enjoying each other’s company while laughing wholeheartedly, Heather + Jordan’s Accelerator Space wedding was full of personal details, intimate moments, eclectic decor and an edgy, modern aesthetic that complimented their love story and personalities in every way… not to mention, making time to take photos at Baltimore’s best industrial spots!

urban-row-photo-winter-wedding-woodberry-kitchen_0014.jpg
urban-row-photo-clipper-mill-wedding-portraits_0027.jpg

Holding their wedding on Leap Day was just one of the ways these lovebirds designed a wedding that was totally unique, fun, memorable and full of photo ops everywhere you turned. February weddings are not for the faint of heart… H+J braved frigid 28 degree temperatures for not only their first look, but portraits with their wedding party in Clipper Mill; our hands were frozen and our cameras took their time focusing, but these cuties won so many awards in my book - you’d have no idea how cold we all were!

Jordan’s reaction when he saw Heather for the first time says it all…!!!

Heather + Jordan’s modern industrial yet intimate and romantic Accelerator Space wedding was the best way to kickoff 2020… enjoy these sneak peeks, some of my ABSOLUTE favorites from their winter wedding in Baltimore!

urban-row-photo-groom-maroon-suit_0018.jpg
urban-row-photo-groom-maroon-suit_0019.jpg

9 FUN FACTS + HIGHLIGHTS:

  1. Jordan wore a maroon plaid sport coat paired with black converse and a black cap while Heather wore a blush fur stole to keep her warm with white converse that were embroidered with her new last name!

  2. H+J got married on Leap Day, which happened to be the same anniversary as her grandparents.

  3. They shared their first date at a local craft brewery in Baltimore and as a homebrewer, their signature drinks were 2 of their favorite local craft brews (Bells Two Hearted Ale + Union’s Duckpin) and their favors were pint glasses that said ‘Love is Brewing’, so fun!

  4. The Otherside Creatives and Lynn C designed an escort card display inspired by their love of beer: individual mini glasses of beer with hand lettered table assignments and a 6’ black acrylic Avett brothers sign with their favorite lyrics…

  5. To maximize dancing with their guests, there was nothing but open dance floor after the MOH and Best Man gave their speeches - no formal / first / parent dances

  6. Zeffert & Gold created the most delicious dinner stations which meant minimal lines while guests went up to get their food and tons of tasty options: a street taco bar with allll the toppings and sauces, lamb + flank steak with mashed potatoes and mushroom ravioli and chicken in a creamy garlic sauce

  7. Thurman & Fig collaborated with The Otherside Creatives to create a hanging dried floral installation for the ceremony which was EPIC. It was able to be repurposed to go above the photo station with the couch and fern wall after ceremony was done.

  8. Who needs a photo booth when you can design a photo lounge for guests to use??

  9. Heather’s bouquet was full of king protea, tulips, roses, eucalyptus, ranunculus and palm elements… texture, burgundy, blush and amazing smells!

Starting the day getting ready at the Inn at the Colonnade meant we were really close to Clipper Mill and ultimately, the Accelerator Space. My texture loving heart was OBSESSED with all of Heather’s details!! Her dress had gold sparkles in it!

Once we couldn’t feel our limbs anymore, we headed back to the Accelerator Space to get ready for the ceremony with a stop at Full Tilt Brewing, just below. Love the colorful, unconventional and urban feel this space had to it!

We had never photographed a ceremony in the den space yet and I can tell you, it’s pretty amazing!

3 things to consider when planning a winter / holiday wedding

Winter weddings are gaining popularity recently and many wedding venues will transform into cozy, festive hubs of celebration for you and your guests to eat, drink and be merry! If you’re considering getting married during the month of December, there are a few additional layers of detail to consider and factor into your planning.

…enjoy these tips from years of experience capturing couples at recent winter weddings held at unique Baltimore and Maryland wedding venues!

urban-row-photo-haven-street-ballroom-wedding-photographer_0001.jpg

  1. be mindful of how days are shorter in cooler months and how the timing of your ceremony can directly affect your photos

for example, if you’re planning a church ceremony that will last about 45-60 minutes to incorporate a full mass and/or start at 3pm or later, the sun will be setting right at the end of your ceremony and won’t allow for many portraits (if any at all!) using natural light. rushing to get portraits in after your ceremony while everyone is anxious to get to the reception and enjoy cocktail hour does not make for a great experience. for weddings between november through february, I highly recommend doing a first look and planning for portraits of you and your partner, bridal party and immediate family BEFORE the ceremony to ensure we have plenty of time to take gorgeous photos in the most flattering light and while everyone is still fresh and focused!

urban-row-photo-haven-street-ballroom-december-wedding_0025.jpg

2. find out what your venue will look like during the winter months and if/how they decorate for the holidays

are there added twinkle lights? how festive is their typical winter decor? are you able to see the designs for their decor in advance to make sure you can coordinate any colors, textures or florals to compliment and look cohesive?

Baltimore Country Club for example, has their own holiday decor and florals designed and provided by Victoria Clausen Floral Events… not only is it gorgeous and one less thing for you to think about, but it also makes for beautiful backdrops for your photos both inside and out. I’m all about the added value! ;)

urban-row-photo-victoria-clausen-wedding-florist_0042.jpg
urban-row-photo-december-wedding-baltimore-country-club-first-look_0014.jpg

3. don’t let the weather scare you

use the colder weather to your benefit! gift your bridesmaids scarves, fur stoles, cute sweater wraps, fun jackets, boots, etc… your photos will be unique and full of personality :) aaaand, unless it’s pouring rain out, I will ALWAYS recommend we take your portraits outside since natural light is more flattering and will allow us more options of poses, movement, light and shadow.

I love seeing all the unique details our couples include at their late fall and early winter weddings since it usually means warm signature cocktails, cozy wraps and tons of greenery and texture!

Here are some of the highlights and winter wedding inspiration that I can’t get enough of:

  • Laura’s faux fur wrap that provided a luxe look with her white and green winter bouquet full of dusty miller, silver brunia, roses, white ranunculus and a white king protea

  • Cesar getting ready with his groomsmen in the bowling alley of the Baltimore Country Club

  • dark emerald green velvet bridesmaids dresses from Jenny Yoo and BHLDN combined with groomsmen in custom navy Enzo suits and light green ties from Vineyard Vines

  • modern and lush wintergreen bouquets by Victoria Clausen Floral Events (who also designs and decorates the entire club for the holidays!)

  • choreographed dance moves during their first dance AND parent dances as the 8 piece Bachelor Boys Band rocked the dance floor all night

  • the second wedding in a row with a bride that changed into the prettiest jumpsuit (with an oversized bow on one shoulder) for the second half of the reception!

sneak peeks | julie + joe's burgundy and rose gold main street ballroom wedding

“Everything with Joe just felt right from the very first day.” …shouldn’t all love stories start like this?!

urban-row-photo-main-street-ballroom-wedding_0008.jpg

Being from the same hometown, growing up in the same church, attending rival high schools and having countless mutual connections in their small community in Carroll County, Julie + Joe were truly meant to find each other!

Their wedding day at Main Street Ballroom in Ellicott City was full of overwhelming emotion, radiant joy and the most beautiful rose gold details that complimented the industrial metals and stone foundation walls that make up this historic venue!! Julie was an incredible bride, glowing from the inside out and the way Joe looked at his beautiful bride made my heart explode! I couldn’t get enough of Julie’s gorgeous red hair swept up in her mom’s veil and alllllll the flowing soft tulle netting on her WToo by Watters wedding gown. Speaking of dresses, the mix-n-match styles of the girls’ colored floor length Birdy Grey bridesmaid dresses in pinot noir, had me swooning from the second I saw them!

For now, enjoy these sneak peeks and know much more is to come!

winter holiday soiree at liriodendron mansion | maryland wedding venue

Imagine hundreds of twinkle lights wrapped inside wisteria branches arching over a patio that overlooks 100 acres of exquisite grounds in Harford County… a cozy and chic winter gathering of dear friends inside a Georgian Revival mansion that dates back to 1898…

In early December, we kicked off the holiday season with a festive soirée to remember! Hosted by Caitie Welch of Betty Lou Events and Melissa & Jim Benson, Owners of Eleven Courses Catering at The Liriodendron Mansion, the entire place was filled with magic that only this time of year can bring…

The stately architecture of the historic Liriodendron Mansion in Bel Air, MD provided the perfect backdrop as daylight faded into golden hour and guests began to arrive!

Non-traditional textured magnolia leaves, dark red roses and hand painted gold greenery decked the halls as nearly 40 of the DMV’s best creatives were serenaded while sipping gourmet hot chocolate and festive cocktails on velvet settees. Small bites were wrapped like presents and served in whimsical ways, by servers wearing tartan plaid ties to match the runners in the stunning holiday inspired tablescape.

Directly following cocktails, guests were invited to take their seats; farm tables were set with chic black and white place settings for all to enjoy an incredible 3 course dinner. Each seat was set with a hand lettered ornament and a delicate contemporary menu.

sneak peeks | elizabeth + donald's winter wedding at the baltimore country club

Elizabeth and Donald’s winter wedding at the Baltimore Country Club had the most incredibly chic, elegant and beautiful meaningful elements making up their day - I’m overjoyed to share these early favorites with you!

urban-row-photo-winter-wedding-baltimore-country-club_0010.jpg

You need to peek at this exquisite December wedding that had:

  • Jayce the pug as their dog of honor in a bowtie

  • an ivory, burgundy and gold festive holiday color palette

  • a bouquet of burgundy peonies, white anemones, white calla lilies + eucalyptus

  • Elizabeth’s grandmother’s fur stole

  • confetti cannons raining on the dance floor

And I also want to share a PSA that rain on your wedding does NOT mean disappointment and dreary photos - quite the opposite! With creative areas of cover, snuggling together to stay warm and clear umbrellas, it means we get to be more creative and you get the best luck… you know, because rain on your wedding day is good luck (coming from this husband and wife photography team that got married at a vineyard during a hurricane and still look back on it and laugh 10 years later)! ;)

Congratulations again, lovebirds! ps: Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want for Christmas’ has always been one of my favorites to listen to this time of year and now memories of confetti swirling around as I hear it will always bring me back to your day!

Naomi
